15 Mar 2009I couldn’t recall the name of the lake, so I had to dig up my journal of the time and read the entry. Now I remember. Most of all what I remember is how quiet, and peaceful and beautiful it was at Ute Lake State Park. The crystal clear water of the lake – so different from our muddy Oklahoma lakes. All the plant life was so different, and several lifer birds – some that I couldn’t identify at all. I got a sunburn on the back of my neck while I sat on the rocks and drew this, It was pretty astounding to me to be sitting around in a t-shirt getting a sunburn in September.
It is scenery like this that has me finally finding my niche in the art world. I do believe in a few years you will be able to point at me and say, “Summer Foovay, you know, the western artist”
I needed to see this today – and read the journal entry. Reminds me why I am here, and how much I love New Mexico. We got still more bad financial news yesterday and I’m feeling very beleaguered. Suddenly, it started to feel like those bad old days in Tulsa when every day was an occasion for more bad news, another body blow, more hatred directed my way. Even the river was not always a safe place to hide out.
I ranted and raved about the state of the nation, the economy, and the sheer greed and meanness of some people for an hour or so this morning. Stomped my feet and threatened to lose my religion. Then took a good deep breath and sat down to do my affirmations and such. And – I’m glad – decided to upload my daily sketch before I started email. Because no matter what shit the world throws at us, we are here in New Mexico, it’s a beautiful day, and I am with people who love me in a place where I am hardly the weirdest of them all – LOL.
Way will open. We will survive.
