Free Clipart

Despite the fact that things are looking up at work, I am also putting a lot of time into getting the web empire up and running again. Right now I am in the process of getting all my free clipart back on line. So if you were a former fan of Demented-Pixie Graphics, you can find all that free clipart in it’s new home here. Be sure and bookmark and all that. Be aware that there is quite a bit to do and redo so it’s a bit “in process” right now. Meaning you’ll see spots with “ad space” typed in that will someday have an ad there – LOL. I’ve only gotten as far as the winged horses (Angel Animals) and the Bird clipart. Like I said, there’s quite a bit, so it’s going to take awhile before it’s all done. But some of the artwork is there at least.

You’ll also notice the new little boxes saying that I am releasing this work to the public domain. There’s a couple of reasons for this. One is the whole “free” thing – and there is quite a debate amongst marketeers on the web as to whether or not “free” is a good thing. What I do know is that I’ve never charged for my clipart, and it has always managed to have a trickle of income from the Google Adsense ads. Never much, it’s true ($5 a month or so) but it pays for hosting and now and then I get contacted for a commission based on the clipart. So in this case, I think “free” is really the way to go.

The other reason I am releasing to the public domain is that word – “releasing”. I used to spend a lot of time getting upset over people using my artwork – even on products for sale and commercial websites – without a word of credit, not my name, not a link back to my website, nothing. But then, I used to have some insane notion that I’d someday, somehow get paid for some of my artwork.

The web audience, as a whole, has shown me that you feel artwork is worth nothing at all, and if it isn’t free, you’ll just steal it. Our current society clearly feels that while it is worth paying me to push carts around Walmart parking lot, it is not worth paying me to spend my time and effort creating artwork. Rather than stress myself out over it any more, I’m just releasing the art to public domain. I’ll make my living with my strong body, and give my creativity away for pennies. I’m not being negative here, I’m just accepting what is. Maybe someday it will change, but my stressing and feeling unappreciated or used certainly isn’t going to make a difference to anyone but me – and I’m not much into suffering. I’d really rather just freely give it away and if it contributes to your success or happiness – well, that’s all to the good then!
