Book Review: Carousel by Richard Paul Evans

In: Update

20 Aug 2009

What initially caught my eye about Carousel by Richard Paul Evans was on the inside front cover.

…a love story that takes place not in seclusion but in the real world, with all the challenges that all lovers must face.

This small book more than lives up to my hopes and expectations. Each chapter is prefaced by a quote, ostensibly from the protagonists journal. These quotes are small, perfectly polished gems of life wisdom. As promised, this is a love story from the real world. The love is no less real and passionate and beautiful than in a romance. In fact, to me, it is even more so for being experienced by real people, dealing with perfectly normal issues that so many real people do have to cope with as they create a relationship that can withstand real world pressures – which are often far more threatening to love than mythical beasts or fictional murderers.

I am without a doubt a Richard Paul Evans fan now, and hope to find his other books available in my local library. Let me also add, that although I picked this book up at the library, I now intend to purchase it to add to my own permanent collection (that for authors who think having their books in the library hurts sales – only if your books suck… HHHH).

After I get to read a few more of his books, I believe I shall make a lens about Mr. Evans – a new addition to “my favorite authors”.
