21 Sep 2009Well, well, look who is dropping by for their biannual visit to our chicken coop for a free meal or two. LOL. Isn’t it wonderful how things work out? I dreamed for YEARS of seeing yellow-headed blackbirds. Then “visited” New Mexico and saw them in big flocks at the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Reserve. And when we finally settled here, we ended up in a place where they never fail to drop by a couple times a year for a few days. At first it was just one beautiful male and his wife – now we have a whole flock that stops for a few days in spring and fall. I feel so honored and chosen! They have been here for a day or two now and I’ve been trying to get a good photo. I finally got lucky today.
The hubby got this dab of video of the flock visiting this spring and I can’t recall if I ever shared it with you. We still had the little chicken pen then and they had manged to slip in and get trapped. I’m sure they much prefer the new chicken pen which is chain link with chicken wire around the bottom. Much easier for these larger birds to fly in and out.
BTW I plan to enter NFAC at eBay with the first photo. I’m going to list it as an ACEO tomorrow and will put in a link when I do so. I’m also going to enter it at A Singular Creations Wildlife art contest for this month. Wish me luck!
