8 Oct 2009I have to say, I really like Plinky prompts as little writing prompts. I wish they would post here automatically. But since they don’t:
You get to start a charity; what is it?
Shit Happens Charity Fund. For people who are barely making it along, $30 grand a year or so, with no kids. There you are barely covering your bills every month and buying food, although both of you work – and one dumb thing happens, a car accident that totals your only car (and the loan company gets all the insurance payoff), someone gets sick and has both health costs and cannot work for a while, a limb blows off the tree and comes through your roof. Not a huge disaster, probably costs under $1000 but it devastates you because you just don’t have an extra dime. I want to be able to take care of that – pay the bill, buy a new (used) car, get the repair done properly, make sure you can get the medical care you need, etc. I’ve been there one too many times myself. Now the no kids rule – that is because if you have children the government and 8 million other charities will jump to help you if you have kids. OTH if you were responsible and chose not to have children you cannot afford to raise, you are punished endlessly by not being able to qualify for any kind of aid from anyone.
The prompt was named something that makes you wish you were a kid again. By and large my childhood was hell – but I saw a photo this morning that reminded me of a wonderous experience
This photo: http://www.weforanimals.com/galleries/butterflies%20gallery/butterflies%20pictures/page-1/butterfly_pictures-1.htm reminds me of when I was young. My mother had these big lilac bushes and twice a year during migration the Monarch butterflies would descend on them in a cloud and stay a couple of days.
I actually live 25 miles out of Truth or Consequences – which is what this is a map of. There is no map for where I am
which is one reason I love it. Out here on the desert you can see Pronghorn Antelope, Badger, Skunk, Ring tailed Cat, Bobcat, Desert Fox, Coyote, Mule Deer, Racoon, Beaver (near the Rio Grande), Otter (same), Grey Fox, Oryx, Rattlesnakes, Tarantulas and a multitude of birds.
Who me? Waste time? I am NOT. I consider this a little bit of writing exercize, not to mention a nifty little way for us to get to know each other better.
So there!
Oh yeah – one more thing. You know I am very into Kiva which does something much like the little charity I want to make. And to add to that answer – I’d like to be able to also offer a hand up. Like if someone has written a little book they would sell if only they had the Adobe program to make it an ebook to sell, or all someone needs is a little investment to improve their livelihood (which is what Kiva does). It’s the whole “give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach him to fish, feed him forever” philosophy.
