The County Fair
on October 12th, 2009 at 12:48 amAhh…the best laid plans and all that. I seem to run at least two days behind on my todo list, and THEN something happens that causes me to lose a days work.
Friday the poor little car finally refused to start. She’s had a little problem coming on, but we just haven’t had the money to even think about fixing it. At least she managed to hang on until a payday when we could not exactly afford it, but at least could push our other bills off to the next payday. The mechanic was a great guy and really gave us a deal – it was the part that cost a fortune. I shall not complain – in four years only twice has this car failed to get us where we were going. The first time was a battery, and the one we replaced was the one that came from the dealership when she was new. This time it was a fuel pump. Whew. That hurt. But as promised, she is running much better than she has in months. While under there the mechanic spotted some other small issues that we’ll hopefully get taken care of next month and then I expect her to return to her former awesomeness.
But that did use up Friday, since we had to be in town most of the day. We made the best of it, with a delicious lunch and a bit of shopping. I discovered a newly opened rock and beads store! Despite my best intentions, we spent a little money – and I will certainly be back in December when I plan to take a short vacation from novel writing and do some art and jewelry instead.
I really debated if I should allow myself to go back into town on Saturday for the Sierra County Fair. I had planned all week that Saturday would be my best day to go to see the things I love. The fair, after all, only comes once a year – so I went.
The new camera takes wonderful photos – but has very limited storage. Yes, I know, we can buy a new card – but we are just a little strapped this week… So I just took a few photos of my favorite critters.
For some reason the exhibits just didn’t have the degrees of awesomeness this year they did last year. However, I did spring $10 for a chair massage to get that awful knot out of my neck. Worth every single penny – at last I can move my right arm without agonizing pain. I feel almost human!
Later I went over and watched the ranch rodeo. Didn’t get photos as I kept getting interrupted. It was fascinating to watch “real cowboys” doing what they do – roping, cutting, moving cattle in and out of pens and trailers and making it all look that easy and casual. I could have sat and watched all day. Next year I’ll be back with more camera storage and get a bunch of photos to draw from.
Sunday is generally a lazy day for me. Instead I’ve done a bit of work! For one thing, I finally have the emails pared down to under 100. Yipee! I have a couple of deals maybe in the works for some of the line art at Color-Your-Own.com to be licensed for other uses. Did a wee bit of editing on the 3 Day novel and sent that bit to a few readers to see what they thought. Uploaded these pix and did a little Squidooing – including finally reading the Giant Squid Manual *blush*. I was going to draw some new coloring pages for Halloween but I may just call it a good day and do that tomorrow.
