Plinky plinky and other stuff

I’m trying out this new thing called TweetMyBlog. If you don’t see a couple ads for it floating around here, it didn’t work and I dropped it – LOL. Supposed to hook my blog up with my Twitter account get me a gazzillion followers. Sure. I’ll try anything once. I will tell you about something that DOES work and that is TweetCatch. I’ve gone from about 100 followers to over 500 and I mean these people are INTERESTING. No, I mean it in a good way – they truly do share many of my interests, and that’s great. It’s hard to find people on Twitter – or at least I think so, so this has worked really well for me.

Enough of that – I’ve been playing at Plinky today. So in the vein of getting to know each other – here’s a few of my answers to Plinky prompts (I also consider them nifty little writing prompts)

What’s the happiest Life Change you’ve had so far? How did you feel about it at the time?

“Moving to New Mexico changed my life for the better”

I was excited and looking forward to it, but I also had doubts. I had friends I loved that I would hate to leave in Tulsa, and some nice things – but all that was coming to an end. There were a lot of circumstances that made my life in Tulsa a misery, too – so escaping those was a boon. I love going on the road and seeing new places so from that perspective I was very happy with it.

One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in nature

Misty visit

This is really a tough one for me – I’ve seen some really amazing sights in nature. But one of my all time favorites occurred on a very early, very foggy morning. I was sitting in some high grass beside the Arkansas River. It was so silent it was if time was standing still. And then floating with grace and majesty two pure white swans came out of the fog and went past just a few feet away from me without noticing me at all – then vanished into the fog again.

My favorite place to warm up in the winter (besides in bed)

The natural hot springs at Las Palomas – oh YUM they are so delicious to slip into on a cold day. After 30 minutes to an hour in 107 degree water, hopping out is refreshing, too.  I also like Hay Yo Kay springs, which is around the corner from Las Palomas.  Hands down cheapest springs in town – Indian Springs, right down the road from Las Palomas.

Your Most AWkward family moment

You don’t know the half of it. The most awkward moment, for all that some of us were trying to be graceful about it – was the Thanksgiving that my mother chose (after warning us) to invite my younger sister – whom she had given up for adoption and never told anyone about. There at the dinner table my dear half brother went off on this girl – why I’ll never know (he’s usually the reasonable one). My older half-sister and I bitched him out and told him to be nice or get out – and we never, EVER agree on anything.

It gets worse. This was the first (and last) time my mother had all four of her children, all of her grandchildren, and her soon to be ex-husband at one table.  She also cooked every dish (she tends to just buy a smoked turkey or something else prepared)

She poisoned us.

No shit – we were all in the clinic the next day with food poisoning.

It gets worse.

A few days after that I’m at the gay bar (at the time I was still married to my first husband but the marriage was open and all but over anyway). Someone grabs me from behind and starts shoving me out the back door. When we get out there I turn around and its – My New Younger Sister. Um, no, neither of us felt it necessary to bring up our sexuality over Thanksgiving dinner. There was enough excitement there already!

And you wonder why I don’t talk about my family…

I have been very productive today and yesterday with a new coloring page of a horse drawn sleigh inspired by Currier and Ives print. I love those cool old vintage prints, and if you click here you’ll get to see my new Squidoo lens about them.

I’ve been working since this morning, but it doesn’t seem like I have accomplished all that much.

One more thing – please help me get these two pages rated nice and high at Squidoo this month. They’re pretty important to me.

Free Printable Christmas Coloring Pages is my last hope for doing well at Color-Your-Own.com this month. Because I was without Internet when the Google dance happened, I am not listed anywhere on the search engine results for Christmas coloring pages. I do mean – not listed AT ALL. So what I’d love to do is get this lens in the top ten of Parenting and Kids section in Squidoo – that would put it on the front page of Squidoo. It would also be the first time ever I’ve been on the front page with any lens – so that would totally be joyful for me as a new miles stone. I started asking for help with this on Twitter yesterday and the lensrank went from 204 to 103 overnight! So help me out? Visit it, rate it, sign the guestbook, link to it from your blog, twitter about it…Please please please?

Now I’m going to ask you to do the same thing again – for a totally different reason. Pets as Christmas Gifts gives all proceeds to charity. And although that is all well and good, the real point is that this is a good, informative lens about giving pets for Christmas. I give advice for pets ranging from puppies and kittens, ponies and small mammals, to exotics like reptiles. Since most of my advice tends towards the “Don’t do it”, I also give some alternative ideas such as a certificate good for a puppy a couple months later when the house is less chaotic. This is just a lens I am passionate about, that I believe needs to have higher visibility than it does. So – visit, share it, rate it, link to it – all those things. And thank you again.

We clearly have a really serious storm blowing in. Brrrr – the temperature is plummeting and the clouds are so thick that it was nearly dark by 3 this afternoon. Hubby just called and told me the highway to Socorro is closed. Hope he can get home.

Tomorrow is payday, so I’ll be in town – up to my neck in that hot spring for at least half an hour – then dashing around doing the shopping. Bleh. I haven’t opened my neat new horse jigsaw puzzle yet, so I think I will work tonight and save the puzzle for when I get home tomorrow night. I am hoping to get another Squidoo lens done (I have a lot I’ve started but never finished, plus a whole list of new ideas) and do some work on my other blogs to get them up and running and making money again. This is all supposing we can get up and down the highway at all…
