My Zazzle puzzle has arrived!

Mother's Day Deals-468x60

The puzzle above is the first one I have ordered from Zazzle. I have held off on promoting the Zazzle puzzles since I noticed they were “only” 252 pieces and 10″ x 14″. I somehow envisioned huge pieces for childlike hands…

When you order one of these puzzles you can order the puzzle alone, or for a higher price the puzzle with a lovely tin displaying the same picture. Since I was mainly interested in seeing the quality of the puzzle, I ordered the puzzle alone.

I met that poor mail person at the door this morning, jumping up and down with anticipation. Stepdog Harry was jumping up and down, too, but only because he thinks everyone who comes to the door is here to visit HIM. After reassuring the mail person Harry was way beyond friendly on the friendly dog scale, I snatched the big flat rigid package and ran to my puzzle table (which is currently an old army wooden army trunk – it’s ugly but it serves the dual purpose of storage and coffee table).

The puzzle came altogether and flat. I assume the ones with the tin come broken apart and in the tin. There is also a little white box sent flat in the package, that you can fold out and use to hold your pieces. For the most part the puzzle came apart easily, with only a few pieces that were not cut through well enough to pull apart.

The two shown were the only two I had a problem with, along with the two still connected beside them that I decided I would just leave together.

The surface is super shiny! This can be a minor problem for me because I am in my fifties and I need good lighting to work a puzzle. I also live in New Mexico and love my sunshine – so my lighting is usually through a few windows. Light at the wrong angle on this puzzle, I can tell you from experience, will make it impossible to see. I’ll probably have to close the shades and set my natural light lamp over the table instead.

However, as you can see, my fears of BIG pieces and a quick, too easy puzzle are set to rest. With a pencil in for scale, it is clear the pieces are of a “normal” size.

Taken apart, it covers my table

I also don’t have any fear that I’ll get this done too fast. I had some nice puzzles from a big box that holds fourteen or so that were 300 and 500 pieces that I finished in two or three hours. I don’t think this is going to be done in three hours. In fact, I left it in pieces on my table to work on later tonight. The complexity is from the colors of the horses, and the uniform color of the background.

So – my conclusion about those Zazzle puzzles is that they are good quality (one or two pieces aren’t bad – I’ve bought store puzzles with one or two pieces like this)with a lovely finish. They’re a nice size for me, and the complexity will depend entirely on what the picture is. They have, of course, the nice little customizable feature – that is, you can make a puzzle with any picture of your own. Wouldn’t a puzzle made of the photos of grandchildren make a great gift for the grandparent who loves to work puzzles? You can click the link here, or use the one I keep to the left of the page on the blog to order your own custom puzzle.

NOW that I know these are really quite nice, I will joyfully get into creating my own! I was looking at puzzles in a store a few weeks ago and noticed that while there are LOTS of pretty landscapes of England, and places with woods and trees and so on there are none of our beautiful Southwestern landscape of New Mexico or Arizona, our beautiful Chihuahuan Desert, or the Sonoran. My husband took many great photos of the landscapes during our travels a few years ago – and we’re always taking more – and I thought GEEEEE I wish I could put HIS photos on puzzles…

Well…look out world.
